Management consultant-turned-high school teacher, Ignatius\u00a0Zanetidis, was inspired to take up a foundation year gig at\u00a0Bemin\u00a0Secondary College after speaking with other teachers\u00a0who\u2019d\u00a0previously joined a\u00a0brand new\u00a0school.\u00a0<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u201cAs a member of foundation staff, you’re in the position where you work in a school that’s been built specifically for the community it serves,\u201d Ignatius said.<\/span>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u201cI am really motivated by the prospect of working with staff, students, and in the broader community to build a college culture that really reflects the community’s identity.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

He\u2019s\u00a0coming to\u00a0Bemin\u00a0Secondary College in\u00a0Truganina\u00a0after teaching at Edgars Creek Secondary College in Wollert, just north of Epping near the Craigieburn Bypass.<\/span>\u00a0<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Families already living in or moving to Westbrook estate in\u00a0Truganina\u00a0will be within walking distance of the new school.<\/span>\u00a0<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

It\u2019s\u00a0one of many community-building infrastructure projects delivered by the State and Local Governments as the area\u2019s population grows.<\/span>\u00a0<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Also nearby are shopping\u00a0centres\u00a0at Tarneit Park Hub and Tarneit Central, built and\u00a0operated\u00a0by Westbook\u2019s developer, the Dennis Family Corporation.<\/span>\u00a0<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

From Term 1, 2024, the new school in a fast-growing suburb of Melbourne\u2019s West will begin with around 115 students in year 7 and 228 in year 10.<\/span>\u00a0<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Ignatius lives in Melbourne\u2019s North and\u00a0studied\u00a0business and law at La Trobe University in Bundoora.<\/span>\u00a0<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

For him, working with students from a multicultural and fast-growing area is an exciting prospect.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u201cI went to school in Gladstone Park, so it was a very multicultural area, Edgars Creek (previous school of employment) is very\u00a0multicultural\u00a0and I really enjoy the diversity,\u201d Ignatius said.<\/span>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u201cI’m\u00a0looking forward to meeting a lot of different students and learning about their backgrounds and interests.\u00a0I\u2019ll\u00a0be really trying to embed that into my teaching.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u00a0The biggest challenges once the first school term starts at\u00a0Bemin\u00a0Secondary College?<\/span>\u00a0<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u201cParticularly for the Year 10s, they’re coming from a lot of prep to 9 schools where they are the oldest students in the school, they will be coming together at\u00a0Bemin\u00a0to build one new school culture,\u201d Ignatius said.<\/span>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u201cWe’re in a very new environment, we’re all learning together, even just things like finding which classroom we need to go to and learning the students’ names.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n
